3.5 Games Back
The Cardinals roll to another win against the Brewers. Pineiro was super, allowing 2 solo HRs in 7 innings. Ricky had another hit and 2 more Ks. MV3 went 8-14 with 4 RBIs, while each homered. The Cardinals are now 3.5 games out.
So the Cardinals did not sign Kyle Russell. I wonder how Lunhow feels that his pick, Russell, did not get signed by his rumored rival, Jocketty. Russell’s teammate, Brad Suttle, was also a fourth round pick and got 1.3 million from the Yankees. Suttle, too, is represented by the Hendricks. His bonus is a record for a fourth round pick. Russell is considered to have a higher upside but Suttle is supposed to be a safer bet to hit at the higher levels. So, I would guess that Russell was asking for this much or more and the Cardinals were not willing to set the $$ record for a fourth round pick. Do you want to give a record bonus to a guy who has tremendous power, but strikes out quite a bit and has struggled with wood bats?
Memphis 0 Oklahoma (Rangers) 4
It seems when Ankiel went to St. Louis, Memphis’ offense went with him. Nick Stavinoha and Tagg Bozied both doubled accounting for the only extra base hits. Mike Smith gave up 4 runs in 6 innings. Newly acquired Brian Barden had a hit.
Springfield 4 San Antonio (Padres) 6
Juan Richardson collected 3 hits. Colby Rasmus went 2-4. Brian Anderson and Rico Washington each collected 2 hits, also. Mitch Boggs gave up 5 runs on 11 hits in 5 innings. Jason Motte gave up a solo HR.
Palm Beach 7 Vero Beach (Rays) 1 Game 1
Adam Ottavino got the win but was far from impressive. He gave up 1 run in 6 innings but walked 6 and had just 2 Ks. Brandon Yarbrough had 3 hits with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Nathan Southard had 2 hits.
Palm Beach 5 Vero Beach (Rays) 4 Game 2
Palm Beach had only 2 hits but were helped by 4 errors. Dan Nelson and Mark Shorey had the only 2 hits. Luke Gregerson picked up save number 22.
Quad Cities had the night off.
Batavia had the night off.
Johnson City 7 Greeneville (Astros) 3
Jon Edwards had a big night with 3 hits and 4 RBIs including a 3-run HR. Pete Kozma had 2 hits and 2 runs scored as did Mike Folli.
GCL Cardinals 1 GCL Marlins 4
The big news here is that Mark McCormick pitched a perfect inning and had 1 K. Ronald Russell pitched a shutout inning. Guillermo Toribio was 3-4.
