Don’t Call it a Comeback

March 28, 2009 | stltickets | Comments 0

Is it time for Steve Spagnuolo to take the Rams to the promise land? It seems like success is in the air for teams located in Missouri. All the major sport teams in the Missouri region are picking up steam and putting on a show for our state.

St. Louis Cardinals

St. Louis Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals are 16-9 in Grapefruit League action. This puts the Cards in second place in Florida action. I know spring training results don’t mean much, but with the question marks in the rotation and at second and third base, seeing the Cards be successful gives me hope for the 2009 season. Let’s hope they are in a position at least as good as the Blues with just a few games left in the season come September.

St. Louis Blues

St. Louis Blues

The Blues have back to back games this weekend with Columbus. They play in St. Louis tonight and head to Columbus tomorrow. I think the Scottrade Center has finally come back to life after the NHL strike a few years back. Blues fans took a little time to come back and with the stripping of the team before the sale to the new owners, hockey was practically dead in St. Louis. The Blues have been GREAT in 2009. If they wouldn’t have started so slow in 2008, they’d already have a playoff spot wrapped up. Instead, they sit 1 point out of the playoffs in a grudge match with 5 other teams for the final 2 playoff spots. I don’t know why, but I just don’t see the Blues missing out on the playoffs. I know they are on the outside looking in, but with the way this team is playing righ now, I think they can easily win 6 of their remaining games to get to 91 points. I think this will get them back into the playoffs. The excitement level of fans regarding the Blues is just bringing an energy back to the St. Louis region, which hasn’t seen meaningful games of any kind in March.

Missouri Tigers

Another local team providing meaningful March games is set to tip off today at 3:40 in Arizona. The Mizzou Tigers electric march to the elite 8 has put college basketball back on the map in the region. The Tigers performance against Memphis on Thursday night really brings hope for college basketball fans. I don’t know if Mizzou is going to win today against UCONN, but it’s been a fun ride to see them get this far.

So between the Cards successful spring, the Blues march towards the playoffs, and the Tigers electric elite 8 run, we are pretty lucky sports fans in the St. Louis region to once again have a meaningful March.
