Cardinals win and tie a Major League record
First, checkout the feature I wrote over at Ballpark Digest.
Colby Rasmus was Number 15 on this week’s Baseball America Prospect Hot Sheet. From BA: After hitting .421 with two home runs in 19 at-bats last week, Rasmus has lifted his season line to .257/.368/.495 in 378 at-bats. He is hitting .438/.609/.938 with two homers and two doubles in 16 August at-bats, after slumping through June and July.
Also from BA: New Red and outfielder Shaun Cumberland just missed making the Sheet for his 9-for-22 (.409) with four doubles week for Chattanooga. I mention Cumberland because I saw him play over the weekend as was really impressed. He has a smooth lefty stick, nice range in the outfield, and a strong arm. Chattanooga had another really nice young outfielder, Danny Dorn, who hit an opposite field bomb during the game.
I love Lucena? Apparently they do in Springfield.
No Cardinal minor leaguers received Player of the Week honors.
The Cardinals go out and get 10 hits in a row to match a MLB record. Looper was okay, giving up 4 in 6.1 innings. Scott Rolen had a HR and 3 RBIs. Ludwick had a couple of hits including a double and a HR. The guy could play everyday. Wow, where did the hits come from?
Mike Maroth was disabled with mild elbow tendinitis. Tyler Johnson was activated from the DL.
Memphis 3 Portland (San Diego) 5
Once again, Blake Hawksworth was not very good. Blake gave up 4 runs in 5 innings, giving up all 4 runs in the first. He did strike out 7. Chris Perez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk. Brendan Ryan had 3 hits including a 2 run HR.
Springfield 0 Tulsa (Rockies) 3
Cory Rauschenberger was pretty good, allowing 2 runs over 6 innings. Springfield had only 4 singles for the night. Colby had the night off.
Palm Beach 3 Dunedin (Blue Jays) 11
Tyler Norrick was roughed up for 9 runs in only 4.1 innings. Isa Garcia and Donovan Solano each had 2 hits.
Quad Cities 8 West Michigan (Tigers) 4
Brandon Dickson gave up 1 run in 5 innings. Antone DeJesus had 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Daryl Jones and Jared Schweitzer each had 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Oliver Marmol also had 3 hits. Steve Hill and Christian Reyes had 2 hits a piece.
Batavia 3 Williamsport (Phillies) 6
Jess Todd gave up 4 runs, 3 earned, in 5.1 innings. Andrew Brown had 2 hits and 2 RBIs including a solo HR.
Johnson City 2 Kingsport (Mets) 8
Pete Kozma was 0-4 and is now hitting .188. Mike Folli is on fire, another 3 hits to raise his average to .309. Travis Mitchell had 2 hits and had both 2 RBIs.
GCL Cardinals 6 GCL Mets 11 Game 1
Gary Daley was terrible in his rehab start. Daley gave up 10 runs in 6 innings. Juan Cabrera had 3 hits and 2 runs. D’Marcus Ingram added 2 hits.
GCL Cardinals 6 GCL Mets 4 Game 2
Deryk Hooker had his shakiest start, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks in 4.1 innings. Osvaldo Morales hit a 3 run HR.
