Ring was signed as a free agent this past winter and really struggled [...]

Gregerson PTBNL

According to media outlets, Luke Gregerson has been acquired by San Diego as the player to be named later to complete the December 4 deal that brought Khalil Greene to the St. Louis Cardinals. Reliever Mark Worrell was the original player to be traded a day after he let his feelings be known to me [...]

Adam Kennedy Released

Adam Kennedy Released

Adam Kennedy was released today after the club was unnable to trade him per his request.  While Kennedy’s offense left much to be desired, many defensive metrics had him as among the best second basemen in the league last year.  It is interesting that this would happen shortly after the club announced it’s plans to try Skip Schumacher [...]

It’s alive

Yes, it has been a while.  I mean, wordpress has really changed things since I was posting regularly.
I hope you have all seen my work at the Birdhouse.  We are counting down the St. Louis Cardinals Top 40 prospects every Monday-Friday so I hope you are reading.
Also, the Seamheads Historical Baseball League should be starting [...]

Thinking about the draft and Colby upsets Fidel

[youtube=http://youtube.com/watch?v=HT8DdNI1_UI]
The video above is Missouri pitcher Aaron Crowe.  I have just started looking at next year’s draft and he is one of the top pitchers on the board at this point and time.  I don’t think he will make it to number 13.
Colby and the boys defeated Cuba to win the World Cup.
Be sure to [...]

11/12/07

First off, I would like to mention that this website’s namesake, Whitey Herzog was nominated for the Hall of Fame last week.
I have a story on the Minor League Free Agent Market over at the Birdhouse.
Also at the Birdhouse we are doing our Players of the Year for each Minor League Affiliate.  So far Johnson City, [...]

11-6-07

Maybe this is proof that Mo is his own man and TLR is not in charge.  So’s option was turned down.
Milb.com has a look at the Cardinals’ Minor League system.  Be sure to check out the interview with Mark Hamilton and Joe Mather.
Brian Walton has an interview with Chris Perez.
Strike a potential starting pitcher off the list.  [...]

11-3-07

I have a couple of free stories posted over at the Birdhouse.
This one could ruffle some feathers.  But if the Cardinals want to strengthen player development and contend in 2008, John Mozeliak will have to think outside the box.
I did a look at the 2003 and 2004 drafts.  Both were headed up by new GM [...]

Happy Halloween

Scary, huh?

A little bit of this and that

Yes, my posts have been sporadic at best.
I was hoping that the Rockies would put up more of a fight but I didn’t think they had a chance going into Fenway Park in October.   I was really surprised Aaron Cook looked as good as he did after such a long layoff.  The Rockies will surely [...]

Mike Maroth Released

According to Brian Walton, Mike Maroth has been released by the St. Louis Cardinals.   After a strong start vs. the Mets in his Cardinal’ debut, Maroth really stunk it up.  I really think he was hurt, but now it will be someone else’s problem.
Jarrett Hoffpauir was the only Cardinal in action in the Arizona Fall [...]

News from the AFL

St. Louis Cardinals’ prospects Jarrett Hoffpauir and Mitchell Boggs continue to have key roles in Arizona
With limited at bats so far during the Arizona Fall League, Jarrett Hoffpauir has made the most of his opportunities and is putting himself in the mix for a role on the 2007 Cardinals.  In Thursday’s action, the second [...]

Boston advances

I admittedly was rooting for the Indians to get past the Red Sox.  The Indians were my preseason pick to win it all.  I can’t say that I am too disappointed with the Indians’ season now being over so that now, hopefully, the Cardinals can put a new GM in place.  The Indian’s assistant GM, [...]
