Gregerson PTBNL

March 23, 2009 | Dustin | Comments 0

According to media outlets, Luke Gregerson has been acquired by San Diego as the player to be named later to complete the December 4 deal that brought Khalil Greene to the St. Louis Cardinals. Reliever Mark Worrell was the original player to be traded a day after he let his feelings be known to me during this interview. Since that time, it has been learned that Worrell will require Tommy John Surgery and miss the entire 2009 season.

Gregerson was ranked as the number 37 prospect in the Cardinals’ system after striking out 78 in 75 innings to go along with 10 saves at Double-A Springfield. The 24-year-old was named the Venezuelan Winter League’s Setup Man of the Year after allowing only a 0.82 ERA in 22 innings.

The Cardinals originally drafted Gregerson in the 28th round of the 2006 MLB First Year Player Draft.
