Preston Wilson is back.
According to Derrick Goold of Stltoday.com, the Cardinals have come to terms with Preston Wilson. The contract is for 1 million guaranteed and up to an additional $500,000 in incentives.
Wilson was added to the Cardinals in August after being released from the Astros. In 32 regular-season games with the Cardinals last summer, Wilson hit .243 with eight home runs, 17 RBIs and 27 strikeouts. In October he was worse, starting nine of the Cardinals’ 16 playoff games and hitting .200 with five runs scored and a couple RBIs in the first postseason of his career.
I don’t really see what he gives us from a performance standpoint. He strikes out a lot. I guess the decision was based on chemistry, as he did seem to fit in well. Guess that diminishes the chances of Ryan Ludwick, the subject of my previous post, of making the team. It also means the Cardinals will have to drop someone off the 40-man roster. That man was Michael Hernandez, catcher at Memphis.
