Mark Mulder is expected to start next week for the Cardinals on either Wednesday or Thursday.
The Cubs beat the Brewers and so the Cardinals are now 3 out with 32 games to go.
Cardinals 1 Astros 2
The Cardinals lost a hard fought battle with Houston 2-1. Joel Pineiro had another nice outing allowing 2 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings. The big hit was a HR by Lance Berkman. Once again the Cardinals couldn’t solve Matt Albers who is now 4-6 with a 5.36 ERA. Take away his 2 starts against the Cardinals and Albers is 2-6 with an ERA over 7.
Anthony Reyes will take on the Reds tonight at Busch Stadium.
Memphis 6 Iowa (Cubs) 3
Skip hit a 2-run HR. Mike Smith gave up 3 runs in 6.2 innings and helped his cause with 2 hits and 2 runs. Jarrett Hoffpauir had a hit and 2 BBs.

Mitch Boggs was dominating, pitching 8 shutout innings while allowing only 2 hits. Jose Martinez had 2 hits including a 2-run blast. It was his tenth since being promoted. Cazani Marti was 2-2 with 2 walks. Rico Washington hit a 3-run HR.

Stu Pomerantz had his best since his return, giving up 1 run on 2 hits in 5 innings. Luke Gregerson notched his 29th save.
Quad Cities 1 Peoria (Cubs) 3
Jose Ramirez went 3-3. Christian Reyes added 2 more hits and that was it for the Swing offense. Clayton Mortenson had another nice outing, pitching 5 shutout innings, allowing only 1 hit, and striking out 4. Matt Spade took the loss in as many nights but at least he got an out this time out.
Batavia 0 Jamestown (Marlins) 5
